Weekend Update 09.26.09–The Cougar Hunter Edition

Kara was half James Bond, half Indiana Jones in the cities and jungles of BoomTown this week. She jet-setted, jet-lagged and still managed to report on a genuine cougar fight.

Weekend Update, 8.22.09–The Musical Chairs Edition

musicalchairsThe week ending Aug. 21 began Aug. 17 with another round of digital musical chairs–BoomTown reported that David Dickman, VP of West Coast sales for Yahoo, will be leaving the company at the end of the month for Warner Bros. to work in digital sales. Also, after a five-month tour of Europe and its finer Web establishments, Yahoo seems poised to name a new international head.

Weekend Update 8.08.09–The Lolcats Edition

funny-pictures-cat-has-an-ideaIt’s been a long time between weekend updates, and a long week without Peter Kafka, All Things D’s intrepid MediaMemo reporter. He returns Monday, and just in time, too, since John Paczkowski and Digital Daily will be out all next week. Must be August–do Europeans still take the whole month off? Or is that an urban legend? Weekend Update, 05.23.09

wu-iphone

This Weekend Update is particularly exciting because of all the things happening here at All Things Digital. There is, of course, the upcoming D7 Conference, which promises to be more tech-extravaganza fun than a tweet from @sockington (if only half as cute), but this past week has also seen the launch of our very own iPhone app, meaning that ATD has gone mobile–smart news for your smartphone (we’re still working out potential taglines).

Google alone has posted no fewer than 12 pranks–and none of them match Pigeon Rank in wit.

Weekend Update, 3.21.09–March Madness Edition

tinawozTechnically, the term refers to the frenzied flow of games and the intensity of the contenders for the NCAA Championship crown. But the NCAA doesn’t have a corner on “March Madness”–those descriptors work well in other instances, too. To wit:

Weekend Update, 2.28.09

amykindleMuch ado about the Amazon Kindle 2.0 this week:

After its official unveiling on Feb. 9, the e-book reader started shipping on Monday, and actually managed to grab much–but not all–of the hype that’s surrounded Twitter of late. The device has been met with much acclaim, though it’s by no means unanimous.

Yah-ewww

Like great civilizations, great companies are not conquered from without until they have destroyed themselves from within. And Yahoo appears to be well on its way to doing just that. Shares in the company slid still deeper into the mud today as the market reflected on the uneventful conclusion of the company’s merger talks with Microsoft and its decision to–well, let’s face it–become a reseller of Google ads.
