Discussing Palm’s first-quarter results earlier this month, the company’s leadership claimed that “the vast majority of new sales” for the quarter were generated by the Pre. Palm sold some 823,000 handsets during that period with sell-through of 810,000 units, so that’s an impressive feat. But only if the sales we’re talking about here were made to on-the-street consumers. And, according to Town Hall research analyst David Eller, it’s not entirely clear that they were.

Looks like Apple will hold a special event in March, after all–but its focus won’t be on desktops. This morning the company distributed invitations for a March 17 gathering at its Cupertino Town Hall to discuss the iPhone OS 3.0 and an updated software development kit.

Apple this morning announced an invitation-only event at the company’s Town Hall in Cupertino. As you can see from the invitation at right, the focus is clearly notebooks. It appears those alleged photos of the Apple next-generation MacBook Pro casing that have been floating around recently may be the real deal. Same goes for rumors of a new $800 MacBook.
