OMFG: 4.1 Billion Text Messages Sent Every Day in U.S.

imagesSome 740 billion text messages were sent in the first half of 2009 in the U.S. This according to the CTIA’s semiannual wireless industry survey, which helpfully breaks down that astonishing figure to an even more astonishing 4.1 billion texts per day. That’s about double the number sent during the same period last year.

Bing: Now With Visual Search

bingiphoneHoping to further differentiate its new Bing search engine from market leader Google, Microsoft is moving away from the proverbial “10 blue links” we so often associate with the search experience. During a presentation at the TechCrunch 50 event in San Francisco, the company announced Bing Visual Search, a Silverlight-based feature that replaces those links with images.

Macworld ’09: iWork ’09, iWork.com

Number two on Phil Schiller’s list of three announcements: iWork ’09. The next iteration of Keynote, Apple’s presentation application, offers some new object transition features: object zoom, a swing transition (Schiller demos it with a Bush-to-Obama slide that gets a laugh from the audience). There are also some new text transitions and chart animations. Finally, Apple’s offering a Keynote Remote application. It’s an iPhone app, of course.

Adobe Makes Web’s Flash Crawl

Flash content on the Web may be slow-loading and occasionally nonintuitive, but at least now it’s searchable. Adobe has conceived of a way for search engines to index Flash content, even pre-existing Flash content, without the need for developer intervention.
