We’re Doomed…
What an abundance of ugly statistics we’ve seen this past week. An increase in tech sector layoffs and people talking about them. A decrease in chip sales. A decrease in online spending. And now a decrease in corporate IT spending as well.

Dell’s Health Improving After Employeectomy
Dell delivered its fiscal third-quarter results after market close Thursday, and they were about as exciting as the company’s industrial design. It reported a five percent drop in earnings thanks to what company officials euphemistically describe as “a challenging demand environment.”

SIA: The Chips Are Down–No Pun Intended
The semiconductor industry is widely considered a bellwether for the tech economy. So when the Semiconductor Industry Association starts sounding alarms over its outlook, it’s probably an opportune time to just stop tracking the tech investments in your stock portfolio. If you haven’t stopped tracking them already, that is.

Google: Whoops! Econalypse
The econalypse is finally catching up with Google–according to the company’s recently released 10-Q and Barclays Capital analyst Douglas Anmuth, who apparently just read it. Noting that advertising spending generally declines in ugly economic conditions, Anmuth lowered his share price forecast for Google to $490 from $542.

WaMu: Epic Bail
Add Washington Mutual to the list of troubled financial institutions felled by the current economic crisis. The lender was seized by federal regulators on Thursday night and sold to JPMorgan Chase for $1.9 billion in the hopes of preventing further damage to the country’s hard-hit economy.
