No Christmas in Palm-ville

GrinchWPreWith a handful of new Android handsets arriving at market in the coming weeks, including Motorola’s much anticipated Droid, Palm’s prospects for blowout winter holiday sales are dimming. Earlier this week, analysts at Citigroup and CL King voiced their concerns about the company in the wake of another ugly quarter from carrier partner Sprint. Now, Standard & Poor’s is doing so as well.

Palm: On a Road to Recovery or a Highway to Hell?

mcnamee_hell With Palm’s shares up more than 900 percent since January, they were destined to suffer a correction someday. And now it seems that day has finally come. Shares in the handset maker fell some 23 percent last week amid concerns about increased competition from Google’s Android operating system, which is being rolled out on a number of devices at a variety of carriers, including Palm partner Sprint.

Sirius XM iPhone App Surpasses One Million Downloads, 37,000 Negative Reviews

siriappDespite some glaring omissions in its channel lineup, Sirius XM’s new iPhone app has earned considerable traction in the iTunes App Store. It was downloaded more than one million times in the first two weeks it was available–this despite the fact that the app doesn’t include access to Howard Stern, the personality Sirius often claims is responsible for driving more subscriptions than any other.

Jerry Yang: Throne of Blood

Yahoo is certainly embracing its new market underperform rating, isn’t it? With rumors of December layoffs in the wind, shares in the company are trading in the $11 range today, after dipping below $12 Wednesday to yet another new 52-week low. That’s about half the price that Mithras Capital Partners suggested Yahoo sell itself to Microsoft last week.
