The high-end PC market is not a bad place to be. Just ask Apple, which rules it and with great financial success. According to new stats from NPD Group, Apple now claims 91 percent of the U.S. retail market for personal computers costing more than $1,000. Nine out of 10 dollars spent on such machines in June went to Cupertino.
Latest Seagate Layoffs Offer Improved Capacity, Performance
Seagate is defragging its workforce again. The hard drive manufacturer said Wednesday that it plans to sack another 1,100 employees–2.5 percent of its workforce. These in addition to the nearly 3,000 workers it laid off earlier this year.

All This Processing Power and We Still Can’t Get the Forecasts Right
So that ugly downturn facing the semiconductor industry? Not going to be quite so ugly, say the folks at Gartner. After slashing its worldwide chip forecast from 6.2 % growth to 3.4% growth this past March, Gartner raised it by more than 1%. Seems the slowing U.S. economy hasn’t had as much of an impact on consumer electronics sales as the research outfit had feared.
