Sirius iPhone App: No Stern? No NFL? No MLB? No Way. [UPDATED]

The too-long-in-coming Sirius XM app for the iPhone and iPod touch showed up in the App Store today and sadly, it’s more noteworthy for what’s missing than anything else. Absent from it are a number of the broadcaster’s more popular channels, among them Howard Stern’s, which Sirius often claims are responsible for driving more subscriptions than any other. Also missing: MLB Play-by-Play, NFL Play-by-Play and Sirius NASCAR Radio.

Top of the Apps

Since its July debut, some 10,000 iPhone applications have been released to Apple’s App Store and 9,887 of them are still available for purchase. 10,000 apps. An impressively broad ecosystem for just under five months of development. Apple’s year-end list of Top App Store Downloads for 2008, then, is both handy and timely.

Congressmen: This Is Not a Royalty Increase to Be Tossed Aside Lightly. It Should Be Thrown With Great Force.

Looks like May 15 may not become the day that music broadcast over the Internet died. A bill introduced in Congress last week may overturn a controversial royalty fee increase that Internet radio station operators say would put them out of business.
