Analyst: 750,000 iPhones Sold Last Weekend

750kiphonePiper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster was right. The iPhone 3GS didn’t sell as well as the iPhone 3G did during its launch weekend last year. But it did quite a bit better than he thought. In an investment note issued this morning, Munster estimated the company sold 750,000 iPhones over the weekend.

CES to Give Apple 25,000 Square Feet of Free Advertising

The group, which hosts the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas every January, said Thursday that it is expanding the amount of show floor space dedicated to Apple.

Our Macs? They’re in the Back Between the Toasters and PCs.

Those store-within-a-store Apple boutiques that have been appearing in Best Buys around the country may soon start popping up in Wal-Marts as well. That’s the word from Ben Reitzes, an analyst with Barclays Capital, who believes the retailer hopes to add the Mac to the PC lines it peddles.

In a research note on Apple’s new desktops, the Oppenheimer analyst compared, spec-by-spec, the new iMac, Dell’s XPS One 24 and Hewlett-Packard’s TouchSmart IQ800t and concluded that the iMac offers a better value.

Here’s a Patch for You, Adobe: \Acrobat\Uninstall.exe

adobe-acrobat-reader-256x256There’s a critical vulnerability in Adobe Reader and Acrobat and at least one zero-day exploit for them in the wild already. Yet Adobe won’t have a fix in place until March 11, and then only for Adobe Reader 9 and Acrobat 9. Patches for earlier versions of the software will arrive sometime after that.
Two and half weeks or longer to wait for a critical patch.

Mac Sales Decline During Operation Enduring Downturn

steve_thumbLooks like the econalypse is finally catching up with Apple. Though the record revenue and profit the company posted for its fiscal first quarter led many to conclude it was recession-proof, new metrics from Piper Jaffray suggest that Apple, too, is suffering from these economically challenging times. In a report to clients this week, Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster said Mac sales are on a pace to decline on a year-over-year basis for the first time in six years.
