Weekend Update, 8.29.09–The “Skank” Issue

Rosemary Port, the person who used Blogger to anonymously insult former model Liskula Cohen, was unmasked last week after months of speculation and promptly sued Google for turning over her information. You’ve Got to Approve Rhapsody for iPhone, Steve. Don’t Be Pigheaded…Ow! Hey! Stop Hitting Me!

Apple Triple Play: iTunes, App TV and Apple Television

In a research note issued this morning, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says the time is right for Apple to release the next iteration of Apple TV and to begin work on a full-fledged Internet-connected television set.

Netflix: There’s a Movie Waiting on Your iPhone

Apple’s App Store One Year Later: 65,000 Apps, 1.5 Billion Downloads

When it launched on July 10, 2008, Apple’s iTunes App Store included 552 apps. Today, the App Store boasts more than 65,000. And in a celebratory press release issued this morning, Apple tells us they’ve been downloaded more than 1.5 billion times in its first year of business.

RIM Gains Mobile Browser Share

A noteworthy metric in the latest mobile browser share report from StatCounter: RIM’s BlackBerry has been making some meaningful gains in the world-wide mobile browser market. According to the research house, which tracks page views by browser on mobile devices and the desktop, RIM has boosted its share of the market quite a bit since the beginning of this year.

Apple Ups Stake in iPhone Chip Firm

iphonesApple put some of the vast $28 billion in cash and short-term investments it has socked away to good use this week by raising its stake in Imagination Technologies. The $5.16 million investment nearly triples Apple’s original 3.6 percent stake, giving it 9.5 percent ownership of the British chip designer whose PowerVR graphics technology figures prominently in the iPhone and iPod touch.
