Price Cut to Give Xbox Sales an Early Christmas Goose

xbox-360-logoWho will win the gaming console price war of 2009? Consumers. Two weeks after Sony lowered the price of the PlayStation 3 to $299 from $399, Microsoft did the same for the Xbox 360 Elite, slashing $100 off the price of the console. In addition, the company cut the price of its now discontinued Xbox 360 Pro console by $50 to $249.99, while supplies last.

Hard Disk Error: Earnings Failure Detected

burnedoutharddriveThe econalypse has been particularly unkind to Seagate Technology. The hard-drive manufacturer posted a fiscal fourth-quarter loss Tuesday, its third in a row. Weighed down by restructuring charges, Seagate reported a loss of $81 million, or 16 cents a share, compared to net income in the same quarter last year of $160 million, or 32 cents a share.

Think of the Net as a Giant Mixed Tape and Price Accordingly

Of the 1,770 songs stored in the average MP3 player of the average 14- to 24-year-old, nearly half are pirated. This according to a new study by the University of Hertfordshire, which found nearly two-thirds of that demographic willing to admit it downloads music illegally.
