Research in Motion’s effort to emulate Apple’s phenomenally successful App Store has a new name: BlackBerry App World. Not much of an improvement over “BlackBerry Application Center,” but an improvement nonetheless.
Perhaps Macworld Expo 2009 will have its “one more thing” after all. In a note to clients this morning, Ezra Gottheil of Technology Business Research speculates that Apple will indeed launch a new product category at Macworld in early January. A netbook.
If a global manufacturer of computer hardware like Belkin’s not exhibiting at CES, who is? I posed that question jokingly earlier this morning, but turns out there’s a very real and ugly answer to it: Not Seagate. Not Logitech. Not Cisco. Not Philips. Not Yahoo. And not Sanyo, either.
The media will gather tomorrow at Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., headquarters for an invitation-only event–presumably about updates to its MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. Apple this morning announced an invitation-only event at the company’s Town Hall in Cupertino. As you can see from the invitation at right, the focus is clearly notebooks. It appears those alleged photos of the Apple next-generation MacBook Pro casing that have been floating around recently may be the real deal. Same goes for rumors of a new $800 MacBook.
Now that air-to-ground broadband has added Internet porn to American Airlines’ in-flight entertainment offerings, the company’s flight attendants are asking that it be taken off. The Association of Professional Flight Attendants, which represents 19,000 AA employees, is urging the airline to block access to Web content it feels is family-unfriendly.
Notflix is Netflix once more. The company finally resolved the technology problem that crippled its ability to mail DVDs to members for most of this week. As of this morning, all Netflix distribution centers are operating normally, and the backlog of DVDs that should have been shipped earlier is finding its way into the mail.
