Altera’s Tim Morse Tapped as Yahoo CFO

Looks like Yahoo has found its new CFO. This afternoon, the company said Tim Morse will take charge of its finances. Morse, who has served as CFO for chip maker Altera since 2007 and spent 15 years at GE before that, will start work on June 17 and assume CFO responsibilities on July 1.

Welcome news, since Yahoo has been looking to fill the position since Blake Jorgensen said he would step down from the company last February.

Sprint CEO to Pre Buyers: Get Your Sleeping Bags Ready

sprintbreadlineOne of the simplest ways to create a shortage, and the buying frenzy that typically accompanies it, is to announce that there will be one. And this is precisely what Sprint CEO Dan Hesse did for the Palm Pre Tuesday. Speaking at J.P. Morgan’s Global Technology, Media and Telecom Conference shortly after Sprint announced the handset’s street date, Hesse said he anticipates that supplies will be limited, at least initially.

Microsoft: Mr. Acquisitive?

moneyWith $25 billion in its coffers, Microsoft isn’t exactly hurting for cash. So why is the company planning a bond offering that could raise billions in additional capital? Microsoft will say only that the sale of the notes will be used for “general corporate purposes.” Those include working capital and share buybacks. They also include acquisitions.

Circuit City Reschedules Black Friday for This Wednesday


Black Friday, the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season, will kick off far earlier than usual this year, thanks to Circuit City. In the aftermath of a particularly nasty second-quarter loss and a 95 percent decline in share price, the long-suffering electronics retailer said today it is shuttering 155 of its stores across 12 U.S. markets and sacking 17 percent of its domestic workforce.
