In preparation for the official launch of its new Pixi handset, Palm is rolling out a new ad campaign. It’s something of a departure from the ads the company used to tout the Pre, trading their alleged “ethereal beauty” and I-Am-The-White-Witch-of-Narnia-FEAR-ME spokeswoman for a more forthright pitch involving a crowd of friendly-looking hipsters enjoying a new “Alvin and the Chipmunks” mashup.
Below, Palm’s (PALM) new Pixi ad and my favorite parody of Palm’s ad for the Pre.
If you watched the Lord of the Rings movies, you will instantly see the inspiration behind Palm’s previous advertisements (ads). The previous ads captured the philosophy of the Palm designers, but not the imagination of the public. Palm wowed the press when the Palm Pre was unveiled in January of 2009. All those talking points which were so poignantly demonstrated to the public have been glaringly missing from their previous ads. Their new ad is fun, playful, and cool; and it fits nicely with the Palm Pixi.
Now it’s time to redo the Palm Pre Ads
But their job is not done quite yet – they need to redo the Palm Pre ads. They should position the Palm Pre as a sophisticated smart phone with the power of a computer at its heart. Showcase the WebOS features that make the Palm Pre such an innovative, advanced, and revolutionary device. They can do all of that in 30 seconds. We are living in a gadget age; people are looking for innovative features that set’s their gadgets apart from the rest. Palm’s engineering department get’s it, but I am not sure if their marketing department does.

Here is a statement of my ethics and coverage policies. It is more than most of you want to know, but, in the age of suspicion of the media, I am laying it all out.
