> I just can’t see a desktop
> machine built into a monitor

It's the other way around. The monitor is built into the desktop machine. The iMac enclosure *is* the tower; the tower is not missing like it says in the marketing. What's missing is the external display and the very large I-T burden it brings with it. In your setup, an iMac would only replace the PC tower, not the display. You would end up with more pixels, not less, because you would be replacing the blank side of your PC tower with a bonus internal iMac display. You can upgrade the external display all you want in that case, same as before.

It's the same logic as having a boot disk in your PC. You may have 10 external disks, but putting one into the computer to boot from means the computer can't fail to boot because it can't find its boot disk. An iMac can't fail to boot because it can't find a display. You can still plug on all the displays and disks you want. You're only prevented from having zero, because that's a non-functional computer.

Just got back from the Apple Store in Los Gatos, California. The business specialist said that the two most popular requests, "by far," were for the Magic Mouse and the Mac mini server. Curious to see if the new configurations spur their sales. My interest is piqued.

"They’re available with Intel Core 2 Duo processors starting at 3.06 GHz, and Core i5 and i7 quad-core processors for up even better performance."

-"up"

I just can't see a desktop machine built into a monitor, but maybe that's just me. (I'm using a fairly old PC, but have upgraded monitors twice).

I'm glad they've finally updated the Mini. Considering it.

My museum of rarely used Apple mice overfloweth. I'll wait for the reviews.
