Jacobs is right. Ironically, many of the applications that mobile users want to use tend to be data-intensive and graphical. (It's hard to use just text to convey information on a tiny device where the letters are tiny -- and with an awful keyboard or no keyboard at all.) And AT&T has gotten such a flood of usage from the iPhone that its cell sites are getting overwhelmed! All mobile providers, just like other ISPs, will have to manage their networks to keep them cost-effective and to prevent them from being choked by bandwidth-hogging apps.
