I never see anyone using a Pre that I can recall. I’ve seen every model and color of iPhone, every model of Blackberry, even the touchscreen one that looks like a Soviet iPhone, and a smattering of Android phones with that big stupid clock in the middle of the screen. I’ve seen Centros and Treos but no Pre.

Thanks John. I don’t have access to the analyst report, but I think it’s important to note that both sales figures (823,000 and 810,000) are smartphone sales. My best estimate is Palm sold-in 750,000 Pres and sold through about 650,000. So they certainly did build inventory. The gap can be explained by the reduction in inventory of the older smartphones. That’s not really a surprise, as the amateur sleuths on the Yahoo! Palm message board were able to deduce that within several hours of the earnings report.

Personally, sales look to be about 30,000/week for the Pre through all channels (based on download rates for Pandora and Accuweather), and there are probably 120,00-150,000 phones in the channel. That’s a 4-5 week inventory, not 11 weeks.

Two things, Jake.

1. It’s not my postulation. It’s David Eller’s and, in my opinion, it’s a very interesting one.

2. No idea why Amazon is showing a wait time for the Pre as they seem readily available at both Sprint and Best Buy.

Just curious how you think Amazon’s recent sell-out of the Palm Pre affects your postulation that there’s an inventory glut? At least for one reseller, they appear to have about 0 weeks of inventory.
