Microsoft’s search share in 2005 was 11.7%, so even at 10.7% right now they are down over the past 4 years. The fact that they got down to below 5% at one point recently and so have been able to “grow quickly” since then back to less than they had before does not impress me very much.

Microsoft has been doing search longer than Google has existed as a company. Microsoft is not the underdog in search.

The excusifying by and for Microsoft continues. They can change the names of their products but Bing is still a Pinto.

The innovation at Bing is intense – I was at the launch of their Visual Search this week (http://bit.ly/np8r6) and regardless of what ultimately happens it’s great to see this spurring competition in search which will be good for all!

Two things Michel:

1. I never said Bing was taking share from Google.

2. I wrote “Yahoo lost share to its new partner, falling 1.1 percent to 16 percent, a month-over-month decline of 4.2 percent.” And by “partner,” I mean Microsoft.
