Broadband has been a fiasco in the US, and it's because of the fundamentalist economics that drives business. Give the absolute least amount for the most blood they can squeeze from the proverbial rock (public).

Bandwidth caps, poor service, excessive charges, massive profits and falling infrastructure costs all go to making the broadband providers rich. While we - who pay for all this - get third world quality service.

Best broadband I ever used was in a hotel in Jaipur, India. Worst, a hotel on the east coast of Zanzibar, which was only slightly worse than a hotel in Tucson.

Excellent source. I try and tell people that this is why "big business" loves big government spending programs. One way or another they get most of it.

Competition really does work... when it's allowed to happen.
