That’s when Apple (AAPL) is expected to roll out iPhone 3.0, an update that will bring a number of long-anticipated features to the iconic device. Among them: voice memos; a landscape keyboard for Mail, Messages, Notes and Safari; a phone-wide Spotlight Search; push notifications; the long-overdue cut, copy and paste; and MMS and Internet tethering–neither of which is currently supported by AT&T (T).
Firmware is not quite accurate. The 3.0 update is a modified version of OS X for the iPhone. It’s the operating system in the iPhone that is being updated.
Firmware would be a separate update. That might happen as well.
Oh, yeah, and I’ve had AT&T since 2004, only because I got a phone w/ my wife’s account… I’ve never liked AT&T due to coverage (more bars in more places – yeah, right), but figured, ah, heck they all have lousy coverage. But when I got the iPhone, I KNEW FOR SURE that AT&T stunk. Hopefully, by the time this contract expires and I want some newfangled iPhone, I can get it with Verizon. AT&T is the only thing I don’t like about my iPhone.
John, I hope you’ll write about the Kindle application on the iPhone and how people are liking or not liking it. I’d also be interested to know if the app is changing how people approach reading (reading more?), and if the criteria by which they choose a book is different now that e-books are so affordable, with many in the Kindle Store under a dollar. Also, please report if this topic comes up today. Thanks.

Here is a statement of my ethics and coverage policies. It is more than most of you want to know, but, in the age of suspicion of the media, I am laying it all out.
