@zahadum: Do you mean the dock or the dock connector? The dock connector does support video-out, you just need one of the special cables (dock to composite or dock to component). iPhone/Touch docks have never supported video out, actually the last Apple dock I have seen with a dedicated video output was the one that shipped with the iPod Photo in 2004/2005. Apple changed the video encoding on the dock connector when movie rentals started on the iTunes Store, since then only the special cables mentioned above do work.

since when did the dock for the iPhone (or the itouch) /NOT/ support video-out?!

did I miss the memo that said apple is de-featuring one of it's products, yet again?!

... though this wouldn't be the first time apple has short-changed its customers: bootable ramdisks, FireWire iPods, bootable USB drives, Chinese TTS, etc ... sadly, apple has an undistinguished pattern of serial-murdering many of the grace notes that made it such an elegant & humane chunck of technology.

The way I see evolving is everyone will own a small portable computing device capable of doing anything a laptop can do. You can bring this with you, it's your phone, iPod, DVR, etc.. You'll plug it into your television or a standard monitor when you get home or to the office. Your personal computer will finally be personal and portable and accompany you wherever you go.

This is the second time I've seen Cook's comments misquoted. He complained about 'cramped' keyboards, not 'cracked' ones. A large form iPhone type device without a physical keyboard would not suffer from this problem.

Just to be clear, Cook came out against netbooks as they have been designed so far. iPhone OS 3.0 should bring us hundreds of peripherals. Perhaps a iPhone cover that unfolds into a keyboard? We'll see soon enough.
