where I live, ATT works extremely well. I have noticed recent improvements in both Edge and 3G service. In fact, Edge is so fast it rivals the 3G of a year ago. That said, if iPhone goes to Verizon, I will probably switch because the wife has it, and it would be free mobile to mobile.

As an aside, T-Mobile was the worst by far.

Apocryphal I know, but where I live nobody's network works quite as well as Verizon's. Even my Kindle, which I understand uses Sprint often fails to connect. My cheap pay-by-minute phones which in this area seem to be using AT&T often say "no service". These company's claims of network coverage are a cruel marketing joke for those who don't get coverage confirmed by a real person, or on-the-spot test. When I first moved here I had Verizon, and it "just worked". Unfortunately for my usage pattern, it was just too expensive and I felt I wasn't getting enough of a cost break for being an "all-Verizon" customer. I'm glad to see the economy forcing these companies to give users more bang for the buck... at least some of them.

[...] Verizon may well want to add the iPhone to its mobile device lineup, but it’s doing perfectly well without it. The company posted earnings this morning that bested analyst estimates thanks to a strong wireless business that continues to compensate for its declining wireline division.
