Interesting turn of events in the trial of four Google (GOOG) executives charged with defamation and breach of privacy in Italy. The family of the disabled teenager at the center of the case has withdrawn its complaint against the executives, who are facing jail time over the publication of a cellphone video showing the teenager being harassed by classmates. Seems the family feels that Google has made amends for the video–either that, or it finally developed an appreciation for Safe Harbor. Sadly, the same cannot be said of the Italian court in which the case is being heard. It’s allowing the case to proceed without the family’s involvement. A Down Syndrome association and the Milan city council will act as new plaintiffs.
