In all cases I can think of when Google acquired another company they eventually merged their user base by forcing baught company's users to adopt a Google user ID. They've never done this with YouTube and I've wondered why. Is it a privacy issue, or do they just not want to deal with the very large existing YouTube user base, since I think the userid gets used in a lot of ways in the "social structure" there.

With Andrew Quomo (a Democrat from New York of all places) forcing several national ISPs to cripple their News servers because they didn't promptly respond to take-down requests for porn, I'd say both our privacy and freedom are rapidly eroding for reasons that have nothing to do with terrorism (and in most cases don't actually do anything to solve a problem they intend to address).

At the rate we are going it won't be too long before knee and elbow pads will be required for a walk down the street. If you ask the government to play mommy to you... you can't complain for getting spanked when she is in a bad mood.

Did anyone even get reprimanded when the State Department admitted to losing track of 30,000 laptops? Not that I've heard, and I don't think it was a typo.
