Astonishing is a gross understatement. They lost bank account details together with names and addresses, d.o.b's & social security numbers of every single parent (or guardian) & child in the ENTIRE UK. Such incompetence and stupidity should be a criminal offence - people should end up in jail for this. The Data Protection Registrar is just a 'barking dog' - has no real bite to really protect the public. Of course the gov has got away with it, nothing of substance (no real punishments for anyone) will happen. If they don't find the CDs, parents and children for years to come will be at risk of identity theft. The only silver lining in this is that the CDs include personal details of policitians & government officials. You can bet this will make them to search high and low - else they would not care at all about Joe Public !
