The answer to your question: Will developers really want to use it?

The definitive answer is yes. There are many reasons for this but the bottom line is this is win/win/win across the board and developers can still monetize their apps.

Another way to look at this is that developers are not handing over their users to facebook, rather the opposite. You get to leverage their network. As more useful applications are launched it will spread even deeper into user behavior patterns and new people will join the network (platform). Repeat.

There are risks that companies need to look at before doing this, but i think that their is tremendous upside that is too compelling to ignore.
